I Isaac Kennedy of lawful age to testify and say that sometime last fall as I was passing the office of Mr. Seth W. Smith in Calais he requested me to go into the office and witness a receipt. John Sebattis was there. Mr. Smith asked Sebattis how much he had paid him for the purpose of purchasing lumber. Sebattis mentioned the several sums he had received from Smith, and they amounted to forty five dollars, which they both said was the amount paid by Smith to Sebattis and that it was for the purpose of buying lumber. Smith then wrote a receipt. Sebattis signed it by making his mark in my presence, and I witnessed the receipt.
