Milford Aprail [April] 28th 1859

Hon. Lot M. Morrill

Dear Sir

I take great pleasure in recommending to you Samuel W Hoskins Esq as a suitable person for agent for the penobscot tribe of Indians having known him for a long time and know him to be a man of strict moral habit and of an unblemished characer [character] and the appointment of him to that office would give universal satisfaction to all conserned [concerned] in the welfare of that once numerous but now peatered [petered] race.

Hoping this letter will meet with your approval

I remain

yours truly [circled]
