What American heart does not exult, in the proud display of those political blessings which flow from our republican institutions? Under their influence, our country has become not only an asylum for the oppressed of all nations, but the resort of the distinguished friends of liberty, to whatever country they belong; one and the most illustrious of whom will find, in the proceeding of this House [underlined]your testimonials, to which I beg leave here to add [underlined]my [underlined]own of the highest gratitude for his services, and the warmest admiration of his character. We have been associated, Gentlemen, during a session of more than usual length, and in the performance of public duties, have passed upon many subjects of interest and importance - and if, in the course of our deliberations, their has been any collision of opinion or feeling, it has only served I trust, to awaken emotions which settle down in mutual regard & esteem.
Entertaining, Gentlemen, as I do do every member this House, sentiments of respect and friendship, endeared to many by recollections of liberality and kindness, [inserted above]^cannot contemplate our approaching separation without yielding to a sensibility the heart only has language to express. I pray you, carry with you to the bosom of your families and friends, my most sincere and ardent wishes for you individual welfare & happiness; and may your, under the protecting care of a benign Providence, enjoy the continued confidence of the wise and the good; and largely participate in all the blessings which are offered us here and promised us hereafter.
