The Committee on engrossed bills reported as duly engrossed
Bill – in addition to an act to incorporate the Canal Bank
which was passed to be enacted. Sent up for concurrence.
Agreeably to assignment the House proceeded by ballot to the election on their part, of a Major General for the 4th division – and the votes being counted it appeared the whole number given in was One hundred and thirty four – necessary to a choice sixty eight – Brig. Genl richard T Dunlap had ninety votes & he was declared elected.
The House took up the consideration of the Bill to prevent mischief by setting and carelessly managing of fires – and after receiving sundry propositions to amend, the subject was referred to Messrs Warren of Palmyra, Spring of Biddeford & Evans of Gardiner.
A message was received from the Governor dated Feby 2 1826 [see Appendix page 275] transmitting a copy of a communication from the Commissioners under the Act of Separation, which with the accompanying papers were referred in concurrence with the Senate to the committee on State Lands.
Bill – dividing the town of Baldwin & incorporating the town of Sebago, reported with sundry amendments which were adopted, was read a 2d time & tomorrow at 10 o clock assigned for a 3d reading.

The Senate have elected on their part Samuel Winter Esq Major General for the 4th Division & request the concurrence of the House.
The House assigned Tuesday next at 10 o clock for the choice of a Major General for the 4th Division.
