Gentlemen of the Senate,

and of the House of Representatives:

The Constitution having made it my duty to give the Legislature, information of the condition of the State, the present is a suitable occasion for acknowledging, on behalf of the whole people, our obligations to a kind and bountiful Providence, for the favours [favors] of the past year.

The last has been a season of uninterrupted prosperity to the citizens of this State. The health of the people, the success of individual enterprise, and the abundance of the produce of the soil, all direct our grateful hearts to that Being, whose riches fill the earth. May these blessings be long continued; and may all our efforts the present year be best directed to promote the harmony and happiness of our fellow citizens.
