Friday January 4 1827

Met according to adjournment.

A message was received from the Senate by Mr Hutchinson their Secretary, proposing a convention of both branches in the Representatives Chamber at 11 oclock this day, for the purpose of choosing by ballot seven Counsellors to advise the Governor in the Executive department of the Government - and also to choose by ballot a Secretary of State- The House concurred and the Clerk was requested to acquaint the Senate therewith.

Ordered that Heard Lord who has been qualified to take a seat as a member of this House from the Class composed of Ellsworth, Surry &c, be suspended from acting as member thereof, until otherwise ordered - read & passed.

Abijah Wines Esqr of Deer Isle, appeared, presented his credentials was qualified and took his seat as a member of this House.

Agreeably to assignment the two branches assembled in convention in the Representatives Chamber at eleven oclock and proceeded by ballot to the choice of seven Counsellors to advise the Governor in the Executive department of Government the current political year. The whole number of ballots given in was One hundred fifty nine - necessary to constitute a choice eighty- Daniel Wood had One hundred & thirty - Josiah Dunn Junr One Hundred & fifteen- Jonathan Thayer one hundred fifty six - Edward Fuller one hundred twenty seven - Joel Whitney one hundred & thirteen - Charles Hutchings Junior eighty eight & Timothy Pilsbury eighty seven and they were severally declared duly elected. The convention then proceeded by ballot to the choice of a Secretary of State - The whole number given in, was One hundred & Sixty three - necessary to constitute a choice eighty two - Amos Nichols
