On motion of Mr Clark of Hallowell,

  Ordered that the joint standing committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of an alteration, or repeal of the laws relating to the Inspection of Butter & Hogs Lard, with leave to report by bill or otherwise- read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Jewett of Bowdoinham,

 Ordered that the joint standing Committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of establishing by law a salary for the several Sheriffs in this State, or increasing the amount of fees now received by Deputy Sheriffs, and of requiring the severally Sheriffs to render under oath annually a just and true account of fees by them received, or such other provisions relative to this subject, as may be deemed expedient & necessary. Read & passed - Sent up for concurrence

On motion of Mr Evans of Gardiner,

 Ordered, that the several certificates of membership, on the Clerks file, be referred to the committee on contested Elections - read & passed.
