Saturday the eighth day of February current at ten oclock in the fore noon, to be heard in his defence, and shew cause if any he has why he should not be removed from every office he now holds under this State Tho: Bond, Per order. The foregoing report was read, accepted and sent down for concurrence. -

[Causes assigned for removal of James. M. Rogers]

State of Maine In Senate February 4th, 1823. - Causes for the removal of James M. Rogers from every civil and military office he holds under this State: I. Because the said James M. Roberts is guilty of the crime of having had in his custody and possession a certain forged false and counterfeit Bank Bill or promisory [promissory] note, purporting to have been issued for and in behalf of the President, Directors and Company of the Kennebec Bank; and of having uttered and tendered the same in payment as true to one Syms Gardiner, knowing the same to be false, forged and counterfeit, with intent to defraud the said Gardiner, contrary to a law of this State.

II. Because the said James M. Rogers has been extensively concerned at different times in the importation and circulation of counterfeit Bank Bills in this State to the great injury of the citizens and in violation of laws. - The Senate then adjourned to 9 oclock tomorrow morning. -
