Bill to incorporate the Kennebec Manufacturing Company was read a 1st & 2d time & tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 3d reading

Message from the Senate by Mr Low their Secretary. Mr Speaker, The Senate propose a convention of both branches in the Representatives Chamber at 12 o’clock this day for the purpose of qualifying Samuel Whitney Esquire, Counsellor elect – The House concurred and the Clerk was requested to acquaint the Senate therewith.

Petition of Isaac Ilsley, Agent for the United States of America praying that the jurisdiction of certain lands on Stage Island and on Mistake Island may be ceded to the United States, was referred to Messrs Adams of Portland, Lord of Kennebunkport & Thomas of Mount Desert.

Resolve relating to Markhand Island, was read once and tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a second reading.

Resolve respecting plans and papers, came from the Senate passed to be engrossed as taken into a new draft for concurrence and the House concurred in passing the same to be engrossed.

Agreeably to assignment the two branches met in convention when Samuel Whitney Esquire, Counsellor elect, came in & took and subscribed the oaths & declarations required by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of the duties of his office.

The House took up the consideration of the motion made yesterday by Mr Boutelle for a reconsideration of the vote passing the order requesting Hon William P Preble to give to this House his reasons for dissenting from the opinion given by the other Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court
