An order came from the Senate for concurrence directing the Committee on the Judiciary to inquire into the expediency of making provision by law to authorize the Legislature or the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court, or Court of Common Pleas to elect or appoint a Clerk of the Judicial Court for any of the Counties of this State whenever the Governor & Council shall have neglected to appoint a Clerk as aforesaid for the same on or before the office shall become vacant by virtue of the Statute limiting the tenure of Civil Officers ect and the House concurred.
Resolve authorizing the Governor to cause a Gun House to be erected in Farmington, was read a second time & passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate.
Report of the committee on the order directing them to inquire into the expediency of amending the law relating to the liabilities of plantations to support their poor , that legislation is inexpedient on that subject, was accepted in concurrence with the Senate.
Report on the petition of John Burnham & als Selectmen of Orland granting leave to withdraw, was accepted in concurrence with the Senate.
Petition of Thomas McLaughlin & al & report thereon taken from the last years files of the Senate, came down referred to the committee on the incorporation of towns for concurrence, and the House concurred.
The committee on engrossed Bills reported as duly engrossed, Resolve for the benefit of Waterville College, which was finally passed. The question was taken by yeas
