We smashed a Rebel brigade 91
The Johnies did not notice our brigade but thought they wer alarmd our extreem left wing and wask looking at the troops that they felt sure of captureing. When they got just right our brigade opened with artillery and small arms raking thair line tremendiously. They now saw thair mistake but to late to back out, so they had to surender and throw down their arms. There was a wholy brigade and but few of them got away. There was five stand of collars takin. The numbers of prisoners was heavy but we did not learn how many. It was a South carolina brigade. The Genl swore he would not sure-nder to any d-d yankee, so he was wounded and laid on a stret-cher quite docile. They last heavy in killed and wounded. 22d Our picket line advanced into thair old position but did not find any force. We found a few straglers.
