Recruits came to the 20th 99

25th There was 80 men came to our regt. Very good looking recruits.

26th The recruits stay in three Cos B, C and K. A cold night.

27th We were relieved at 7 oc'lock A.M. the recruits drills today.

This day is long to be remembered. 28th 26 months ago I inlisted. Heavy canonading and some musketry on the right in the evening.

29th Orders came in the night to be ready to move at three o'clock in the morning, with four days rations in the haversack. Day came and we were still in camp. Cavelry is moving to the left the 1st Maine in the column. I saw Sidney, he is all right. About three o'clock firing comensed on our left and continued until darkness put a stop to it.

30th We wer orderd to be in readyness to move at a moments notice and started about eight o'clock A.M. We moved slowly out to the picket line and the four right companies of our regt was orderd out as skirmishers Co.s E, B, H, and A.
