[Committee on the expediency of a law respectg gaolers] Order of the House that Messrs McIntosh Hutchinson and Roland be a Committee with such as the Senate may join, to take into consideration the expediency of passing a law requiring the several Jail Keepers or their Deputies to reside constantly within the House provided for that purpose in the several Counties within this State, came up for concurrence, was read and concurred, and Messrs Witham & Miller were joined.

[Convention] All 11 Oclock the two Houses met in convention for the purpose of qualifying John Balkan Esq. a Counsellor elect for the current year, when he came in, took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution in presence of the Convention The two Houses, the separated.

[message] Mr. Campbell was then charged with a message to the Governor informing him that John Balkam Esq. had been duly qualified to act as Counsellor the current year.

[Bill] Bill to incorporate the Portland White Mountain Stage Company was read once and committed and tomorrow at 10 Oclock assigned for 2d Reading.

[Petitions referred] The following Petitions committed in the House to the Committee on Towns, came up for concurrence, viz Petition of Jacob Ames & others to be incorporated into a town by the name of Milton; Petition of Thomas Miller and others of Bristol for a new town, and Petition of Job Sylvester 3d and others of Durham to have the line between said town and New Gloucester settled, and they were read and
