The committee to whom was referred the report on the petition of S. & C. Merrill reported that the facts stated in said petition are satisfactorily proved and thereupon the House voted to reject the report of the joint committee referring the subject to the next legislature.

Resolve in favor of Seward & Charles Merrill, was read 1st & 2nd time & passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence

Bill – additional to an act to establish a Registry of Deeds for the Western District of Lincoln County, was read 1st & 2d time & tomorrow morning at nine oclock assigned for a third reading.

Resolve for publishing certain laws & resolves of Massachusetts in force in Maine, came from the Senate referred to the next Legislature for concurrence & the House concurred.

The committee on County Estimates, reported the following Resolve, and the report was accepted.

Resolve imposing a tax on the several Counties, was read a 1st & 2d time & passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.

Resolve respecting Clerk hire in the office of the Secretary of State & for other purposes, came from the Senate in a new draft for concurrence – and the House refused to concur and adhered to their vote of 4 inst passing the original Resolve.

Resolve for the establishment of a fund for the promotion of learning, laid on the table by Mr Longfellow of Portland, was read & referred to the next Legislature & ordered to be printed in all the Newspapers that publish the laws of the State. Sent up for concurrence.
