� 88 Relieved by the 9th Corps

I was detaled and went on picket in the evening. The rebs deserters came into our line just as we went on picket. We had a heavy shower in the evening. Aug 15th Cloudy in the morning. Our division was relieved by some of the 9th corps. Troops moved in after sunrise and took our place all in sight of the rebel forts. The rebs got up on thair works and shouted to us where are you going. hadent you better charg before you go and wees would like to have a drink with you before you leav &c but all in good humor. We went back to division headquarters, and went into camp. We had a heavy rain in the afternoon and evening. This is the first time we have been relie-ved from the front line since the 21st of July. 16th In the evening an order came for all of the men but the old and new guards to be ready in light marching order to go as we supposed on fatigue.
