The fighting was within 60 rods of us and we made ready to gain a number of times when the rebs would press our men verry hard. We went in about five o'clock PM under a verry heavy fire from canon and small arms but was verry lucky and did not suffer much in the charge. One John Pollard of our Co was wounded in the elbow. One Mr Key was also wounded. We relieved the troops that was in front and took our position on a small hill. The reb bravely came down on us in the evening but we repulsed them and drove them back.

Sunday 14th We held our position in the front all day but no atack was made on us although the sharp shooters killed a few of our men. At twelve o'clock at night we were relieved from the front and went back into the city to rest and took up our ball in a large brick block for the night.

15th Considerable fireing all along the line. We had an inspection of arms in the mudy street. On the PM we moved to the upper part of the city and lay down for the night.
