� Loss of beef cattle. By rebs 97 Sidney came to see me at the hospital. He is well. Lays about half a mile from here. Says he will come again tomorrow. News that the rebs has captured two thousand five hundred head of beef cattle belonging to our armey and wer hurded near the blackwater river. 20th I feel quite well and go to the table to breakfast. Sidney and Tim Drue came to see me in the evening. I went to the cavelry with them and had a good time. They have orders to move. 21st I feel still better. I went to the cavelry and they have not moved yet. the order was countermanded. I staid untill 4 oclock P.M. Coming back I saw Charles Lord and one of the Tenant boys that I have not seen in the armey before, he belongs in the 5th N.H. Regt. Heavy canonading a[?] all along in front of petersburg [Petersburg] this morning, and was kept up two or three hours and then seased.
