104 October 1st 1864 In line

We have advanced our main line a few miles in this battle which called Poplar Grove Church, or Peble's Farm. After this battle was over on old man came into our lines and asked for a body guard to accompany him to his home within our lines to get some valuables which he had left. The officer in command requested him to take the oath of Allegeance before he would allow him a guard.
