To the Honorable Senate.

           In reply to your Order of the seventh instant requesting me to transmit any proceedings under a Resolve passed February the seventeenth A. D. 1824 authorizing the Governor to negotiate with the Penobscot Indians for the transfer of the Island in the Penobscot River to the State, I have the honor to inform your that no proceedings have been had under said Resolve escepting those of personal enquiries by which it was ascertained that the Indians were not desirous of selling or transferring to the State any Islands belonging to them situated in the Penobscot River, It having been ascertained that the Islands in question could not be purchased in consequence of the objections entertained by the Tribe and others who have been connected with them to their disposing of their real estate and the subject having been several years under the
