Agreeably to assignment the two Branches met in Convention in the Representatives Chamber when Samuel E. Smith the Governor elect attended by the Council Secretary of State & Treasurer & preceded by the Sheriff of Cumberland came in & took & subscribed the oath required by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of the duties of his office & the Secretary of State made proclamation thereof accordingly.
Mr. Deane of the Committee appointed to consider & ascertain the best mode of raising a valuation Committee the acceptance of which was contested until on motion the report was laid on the table.
Agreeably to assignment the Resolve providing for the promulgation of the laws of this State was read a second time & passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate - sent up.
An order came from the Senate for concurrence appointing Messrs. Steele, Fuller, & Goodwin with such as the Senate may join a committee to wait on the Governor Samuel E. Smith & inform him that the Legislature are ready to receive any communication he may be pleased to make & the House concurred & Messrs. Witham of Bluehill, Small of Jay, Sweat of Prospect, Lord of Gardner & Shaw of Standish were appointed on the part of the House. sent up. The Standing Committee on contested elections were nominated by the Speaker & appointed by the House as follows Messrs. Cole of Paris Hamlin of Columbia Smith of Portland Magoun of Bath Davis of Bridgton
