2.[underscored] Members called to order The Members present were called to order by Mr. Steele who, being the oldest member present, took the chair.

Mr. Gardner appointed to wait o the Governor. On motion of Mr. Hutchinson, Mr. Gardner was chosen to wait on the Governor and Council, and inform them that a quorum of the Senate are assembled and ready to be qualified according to the Constitution whereupon the Governor, attended by the Council and Secretary of State, came in, and in their presence the Senators returned as aforesaid, took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution, to qualify them to discharge their respective duties of office.

When the Governor and Council had entered, the members present proceeded to the choice of a President.

Committee to receive sort and Count the votes for President. On motion of Mr. Megguier, Ordered, that a Committee be chosen to receive, sort and count the votes given in for a President, and Messrs. Megguier, Gardner and Davee were appointed said Committee; who after having attended to the duties assigned them, reported that the whole number of votes given in for a President was 18
