[Chaplain chosen] On motion by Mr Cushman the Senate proceeded to ballot for chaplain. Messrs Cushman Ricker and Drummond were appointed a committee to receive sort and count the votes who reported that the whole number of votes given was 16 Necessary to constitute an election 9 Rev. Ichabod Nichols had 9 “ E. Kellog 3 “ S. Rand 2 “ John Bisbee 2

Rev. Dr. Nichols was then declared duly elected and on motion by Mr Cushman the President was requested to notify the Revd Gentleman of his election and request his acceptance.

[Secy of Senate to contract with his assistant] On motion by Mr Dane ordered that the Secretary of the Senate be authorized to contract with his assistant for the compensation he shall receive for his services not exceeding two dollars per day.

[Com. of convention to sort & count the votes for Senators] Agreeably to assignment the two Houses of the Legislature met in the Representatives chamber at eleven o clock for the purpose of supplying deficiencies at the Senate Board - Messrs Holbrook, Healy, Pond, Stevens and Little were appointed a committee to receive sort and count the votes for a Senator in the District of Hancock who reported that the whole number of votes given was 161 Necessary to constitute an election 81 Andrew Witham had 128 Messrs Parsons, French, Vance, Adams of Cherryfield and Libby were appointed a Committee to receive sort and count the votes for a Senator in the District of Washington - who reported that the whole number of votes given was 162 Necessary to constitute an election 82
