Petition of Franklin Glazier for amendment of the Militia Law came from the Senate referred to the Committee on Claims for concurrence and the House nonconcurred the Senate in their reference and refer the same to the committee on the Militia, sent up for concurrence.

Petition of Alpheus Lyon for extending the powers of Sheriffs and their Deputies came from the Senate referred to the Committee on the Judiciary for concurrence and the House concurred.

Petition of John R. Taylor and others for an alteration of the law respecting retailers &c was read and referred to the Joint Select Committee who have that subject under consideration, sent up for concurrence.

Petition of the President and Secretary of the People's Society in Waldo County, in their behalf to abolish the Court of Common Pleas and provide a substitute was read and referred to the Select Committee on the House who have that subject under consideration.

Petition of sundry inhabitants of Portland praying for an alteration of the Probate laws - of Upham T. Craw and others for an alteration in the law relating to criminal prosecutions were severally read and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, sent up for concurrence. Petition of Abner Bagley for an additional act regulating Toll Bridges was read and referred to the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges and Canals, sent up for concurrence. On
