1862 The commencement of the year 1862 found the January 1 the regiment encamped in Virginia on " Lawson's Hill" near Fort Lyon and about 10 miles and a half from Alexandria, in brigade, together with the Third Maine and the 38th and 40th New York Regiments, under command of Brig. Hiram G Berry Colonel S.M. Fuller Let. Colonel Elijah Walker Major Jan. 7th the regiment was paid off by Major Fessenden to Jan 1 1862. Jan 11th the regiment was furnished with Austin rifles in exchange for the musket and Windsor rifles with which they were previously armed. Jan 22 Adjutant Greenhalgh left for home on recruiting service and Edwin Libby was appointed acting Adjutant ( afterwards commissioned as Adjutant March 1st and Greenhalgh transferred to Co K. )

Jan 23 to 26. the regiment was on picket duty- the pickets being extended as far as Accotink village
