The high qualities which distinguished him in Civil life have rendered him still more eminent in his military career & justly & deservedly entitle him to promotion.

We have but very little sickness in the regiment. Doct. Shaw is very successful, is much liked, is unremitting in his duties, and I know of no man now that I should prefer to him for Surgeon of this regiment & trust you will grant our wishes in this respect & send him a commission.
