34.15 -- Committee to Investigate the Affairs and Management of the Insane Hospital. [underlined] Created by R. 1842, c. 90.

Duties -- inquire into and report to the Governor and the Coun-cil whether or not all insane persons should be supported at the State's expense; also report any further legislation neces-sary to benefit the hospital.

Members -- 3 appointed by the Governor.

34.16 -- Board of Trustees of Insane Hospitals. [underlined] Created by P.L. 1843, c. 19, § 1. Repealed and replaced by P.L. 1847, c. 256, § 1. Repealed and replaced and name changed to Hospital Trustees [underlined] by P.L. 1911, c. 197. Abolished by P.L. 1931, c. 216, Art. VII, § 7.

Duties -- exercise general care and management of the hospital; appoint its officers; ensure it functions properly.

Members -- 6 appointed by the Governor with advice and consent of the Council, P.L. 1843; changed to include 1 woman by P.L. 1880; increased from 6 to 7 members by P.LL. 1899, 6 men and 1 woman; changed to include just 7 members by P.L. 1923.

Additional information -- Maine Insane Hospital at Augusta first under its supervision; Eastern Maine Insane Hospital added by P.L. 1899, c. 75; School for the Feeble-Minded added by P.L. 1911, c. 75.
