Bangor July 31st 1862

Genl Hodsdon

My very Dr Sir

My Friend Mr. John Dyer of Bradford (who has been in the Insane Hospital Last winter) has two Sons in the army who enlisted in Co I 2d Maine Regiment in the month of December last while their father was in the Hospital one of whom was killed at the battle of Hanover Court House while bravely fighting Mr Dyer states that his sons were uniformed as he supposes at Augusta (Genl Butter so informs him) and they left their clothing there when uniformed. Mr. Dyer asks as a special favor that you will ask the proper person to see these sent to Bangor in my care and I address you personally not knowing who else to address. If you will please give this matter a little attention you will greatly oblige him and confer a favor on Sir very truly yours EP Baldwin
