Gloucester Point, Va April 25, 1864

Dear Father

I send herewith, part of my Co. Books + papers, which I wish you to take care of.

Our transportation is cut down so low that we are obliged to dispense of all but the most necessary articles. Some of my luggage I shall probably send to Norfolk to be stored --

You will find several packages, [?] by F. F. Knight, J.Q. Adams, A. Woodman, Daisley + Fernald --

It is said that the mails are detained so I will write you a few words in regard to the situation of affairs here -- It is not often that I write anything contraband, but there is no danger of this getting into the hands of the enemy or the papers -- The 10th Corps have either arrived or will arrive at this point -- The 8th Me + 4 N.H. were the 1st to land here --

We are in the light brigade
