I reced your letter larst Night and was happy to hear frome you helen we ar all well at present Beater and I are on picket to day [ Probably Peter Augustine] in the Chickahominy Swamp on the River the Johnies throw over Some Sehells over hear but don't hurt any one yet we are in seven miles of Richmond it is hot hear now but we are all of us well at present

Helen I Should like to see you to day but if Old Grant gits Richmond this fall and I live we shal be at home this fall Helen havent got much time to write Much now tell Atta to be a good Girl and you give my love to
