228. Bill creating the Village of Augusta into a Corporation for certain purposes (reported by Mr. Emmons, from the same Committee, on petition of John H. Hartwell) Resolve in favor of John Bent (reported by Mr. Prescott, from the Committee on Claims, on petition of John Bent) severally read once and tomorrow at ten o'clock assigned for a second reading.

A communication was received from the Secretary of State transmitting the returns of the several Academies and Seminaries of Learning in this State -- read and referred to the Committee on Literature and Literary Institutions, in concurrence.

Mr. Emmons, from the Committee on the Judiciary to which was referred "Bill additional directing the method of laying out and making provision for the repair and amendment of highways," reported that said Bill ought not to pass - read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.

Order from the House of Representatives appointing a Joint Special Committee, consisting, on the part of the House of Messrs.
