i take this upon my Self to inform you of my Situation in Whitch[sic] i am in gail[sic], and i want you to Send to me my Protecttion[sic] and my free Papers, and i want you to git[sic] A Subscription Paper for two Subscribes money enough to pay my gail[sic] fese[sic] i shall want A Bout[sic] 40 Dollars and A man that know me for i was taken of the Rack[sic] at Sea and Brought in to norfolk in virginia By A Pink Sturn tobaco[sic] Boat, and now i am in norfolk gail[sic] for i want to Com[sic] out if i Can i want you to make all the execution. that you Can if you Please i want you to Send me Some money A bout = 40 = Dollars and A white Jentleman[sic] to Sweare[sic] to my freedom. Don't forgit[sic] my Papers what ever my Deer[sic] Beloved Brother Robert Shapley
