62 Back to Lewiston
We had a pleasant visit but it was somewhat interupted by Celesta being taken sick. I called a doctor and he pronounced the disease the scarlet fever, but it proved to be the measles. She was quite sick for a day or two. My latest time being up, and my wife expecting to have the measles too we wer obliged to return to Lewiston. We wer obliged to leave Celesta behind for she was not well enough to travel. She was on the gaining hand when we left her. When I got to Lewiston I rec'd orders to report to camp at Portland. I left my wife at Mrs. Rosses private boarding house for she had never had the measles and I knew in all rason she would be taken in a short time. I told hir to write to me and I would try and get a pass to come back to take care of hir. I reported at the [?] martial at Portland and then at camp Mason thair to await further orders.
