� Rebs in the rear 118 Jan 30th 1865 M Hamm [Mansfield Ham] returned to camp and brot a fiddle with him. 31st Fair and quite warm. The brigade teams went out on an inspection. We had two drills today. I [?] the news papers are not allowed in the armey at present. I have not seen any for some time. We have a good game of ball today.

Wednesday Feb 1st 1865. A fair day It is rumored that the vice president of the confederacy has come into our lines and gone to Washington 2d It is rumored that peace commission-ers have gont to Washington. Capt J F Land [Joseph F Land] has charg of the 1st Division picket for three days. 3d A little stormy. Had two drills. A rumor that we are liable to move. I drew clothing for the company. Lieut Bickford [William K Bickford] has his furlough extended fifteen days. 4th It is reported that the rebels has atacked our rear picket line
