The high qualities which distinguished him in Civil life have rendered him still more eminent in his military career + justly + deservedly entitle him to promotion.

We have but very little sickness in the regiment. Doct. Shaw is very successful, is much liked, is unremitting in his duties, and I know of no man now that I should prefer to him for Surgeon of this regiment + trust you will grant our wishes in this respect + send him a commission.
