Mr Benjamin Carleton Sir The following is the statement of account of taxes of the land of John Ewins Esq in this town -- [?] taxes of 1821 for which the land was sold --6.58 changes of sale April [?] 1822 -- 7.13 Interest on [?] w20 per cent to this time -- 5.28 [numbers underlined] balance of taxes to 1820 inclusive left [?] 19.19 settlement with [?] Little Esq. -- 2.19 taxes of 1822 -- still unsettled -- 3.15 taxes of 1823 -- still unsettled -- 2.91 [numbers underlined] total $27.44 (I do not know but there is another charge of about 3.00 for advertising in Portland) The sale I think was 3d April 1822 or thereabout + therefore it can be redeemed any time before next April. If you should send the money any time before that, I will see it redeemed & the business settled free of expense.
