Bangor June 24 1862 Hon I Washburn Dear Sir I desire to submit the name of Sergeant Joseph Chamberlain to you for a commission in the 16 Regt--Mr Chamberlain was among the first to enlist in the [2d?] Regt leaving a lucrative business for the pay of a private soldier from a sense of duty All agree in saying that he has done his whole duty from that time to this; that he is a brave, hardy, intelligent and virtuous young man.
