195 Encampment 2nd Me. Vol Near New Bridge Va June 15/62 Hon. Israel Washburn Jr. Dear Sir In my letter of yesterday accepting the offer of Lt Cd in the 16th Reg. I stated that I should immediately resign my position as Captain in this Regt. I report myself at Augusta at an early day. I have since seen the General in the matter and he informs me that I cannot be released from my present situation, until I receive the commission as Lt. Cd. in the above Regt.
