I do not know what regulations govern the appointment of chaplains; but supposed your influence, if not your authority necessary to a security of the position.
I believe that but two Cong'l ministers have as yet gone into the service from this state. Mr. Hewins, as you know, went from my place. I cannot suppose, however, that there will be any objection to taking another from the same town, provided he a suitable candidate for the position. I will obtain any recommendations that may be necessary, but do not wish to spend my time in seeking the place unless it be actually necessary
