Randolph Mass. May 24th 1862 Gov. Washburn

Dear Sir

I am now stopping at this place for the purpose of recruiting my health. I left my Regt. (2nd Maine) last Tuesday at White House, Va. and arrived here yesterday, under the auspices of the Sanitary Commission.

I understand Grant has made a call for more troops from the several states. As I am not at the present time able to do "active service" in the field, I think I might perhaps be of some service in raising the quota from our State, (over
