Milo August 12th 1862 Hon I. Washburn, Jr. Gov of Maine

Dear Sir

I take the liberty to state that our neighbor Lieut John Lindsay (Captain elect of the Militia of this town) has manifested great interest for the suppression of the present Rebellion. He enlisted with the members of the Milo Artilary Company to go into the second Maine Regiment.

He went to Bangor with the Co. but learning that but three officers would be allowed to each Co. in the regular service he resigned and came home. When orders came out to organize the [?] militia he was elected their Capt and when the orders of July
