Old Town April 26, 1859

Hon. L. M. Morrill

Dear Sir.

Circumstances which have recently transpired in relation to Mr. Winslow Staples, render necessary the appointment of another agent for the Penobscot Indians. I understand there are several applicants. I think the appointment of Samuel W. Hoskins Esq. would be conducive to the best interest of the Indians. and also to the best interest of the Republican white folks.
