They open the doors of the patients' rooms, see to their ablutions, preface them for breakfast, take care of the beds, see that they are properly made and clean, do up the mornings' work, work which often takes till 9 o'clock. Ques. Most of the forenoon is spent by the female attendants in chamber work. Ans. Considerable of it. Ques. Take the afternoon. Ans. In this afternoon they are in their rooms, the attendants have a little time to themselves as they require; some of the patients go to the seamstress room or to work about the house, laundry etc. some of them go to ride. Ques. How many go out. Ans. A dozen or two perhaps. Ques. Take such a day as today, how much of the day from the time the average attendant gets up till she goes to bed, does she spend in the actual nursing and care of the patients in her ward. Ans. She spends considerable time in the care. She has the care of the patients while she is doing the chamber work; the patients help the attendants do their work.
