Franklin Grove, Lee Co., Ill[inois] Aug 21 1861

To the Hon Israel Washburn Jr. Gov of the State of Maine

Dear Sir

I take the liberty to address you in reference to my Son, Henry O. Dunbar, a Private in Co. H, 2nd Reg, Maine Volunteer Militia. He being a Minor & having enlisted without my knowledge or consent I request his immediate Discharge the following is a true copy of the record of his age.

Henry O Dunbar Born April 8, 1842, & consequently he was nineteen last April. Dear sir, having been for some time an Inhabitant of the Town of Orono & living but a short distance from you & holding in high estimation the justice & integrity of your character I make this request feeling that you will not disregard it. I trust He behaved himself well on the battlefield, & thogh [though] in some respects he has fared hard, I think he has never manifested a spirit of Insubordination. You well know, Sir, that at present the Reg is badly broken up. I hope Sir you will regard the right & feelings of an anxious Father & grant the Discharge at once.
