Henry Barrett Esq of Hermon is in great distress concerning, the situation of his two sons in the 2d Maine Regiment. They are reported with the [?].
He says one of them is but 18 yrs of age that he consents[?] for him to inlist [enlist] for two years & he is [?] of of knowing if the Government will endeavor to hold him now for three years or whether he can be held any longer than three months as none were authorized[?] to be [?] for two years, He say, he wants his Boys to return to duty but does not want them sent off. Mr Barrett is a very good man and I hope you and the Commander in Chief of Maine will aid in doing what can be done to return his Boys from[?] their[?] unpleasant Situation
