In consequence of the indisposition of Mr. Ames, and his inability to attend and preside at the Senate Board; The Senate proceeded to elect a President pro tempore : The whole number of votes given was - 15 necessary to a choice . . . . . . . 8 John McDonald had . . . . . . . 11 and was declared to be elected, and took the chair. A Message was then sent to the House and to the Governor and Council, informing them of the same.-
[Message & Notice of Choice of Major General]
On motion of Mr. Campbell, ordered that the Secretary of State be directed to notify the Governor and Council, that Gen. John Balkam has been duly elected by the two Houses of the Legislature, Major General of the 7th Division of the Militia of this State : and that the Secretary also notify Gen. John Balkam of his election as aforesaid: senf down for concurrence : concurred.-

Mr. Wheeler from the committee appointed to enquire when the Legislature, may have a recess, reported that consistent with the public interest, a recess may be had on Friday the 20th Inst. at 12 oclock : Read, accepted and sent down for concurrence : concurred.-
