To your Excellency:
Having heard a petition & letter read by our commanding officer this morning, the former sent to your excellency & signed by the members of this Regiment (2nd Maine) &[?] the latter from you, &[?] in consideration that I am a member of the B.[?] company of said regiment, & finding my name [?] to [?] said petition, think it[?] my duty to drop[?] you this hoping you will excuse the liberty taken.
