It is with a sad heart I sit down to make known to you my request[?] it is painful for me to do so i am just[?] raised[?] from a bed of Sickness [?] I am a widdow [widow] with 7 Children & the One[?] that was my sole dependence is at Washington in the defence [defense] of his Country Samuel Nash he is in the 2 Maine Regt[?] Col Jameson his Commander he is with the rest of his comrads who stood[?] firm[?] in the hour of tryal [trial] he is uninjourd [uninjured?] except a lameness which is unknown to me and as my [?] [?] [?] are such that I need him at home to assist me in takeing [taking] care of a healthless family My Oldest son at hoe is Cripel [crippled?] My Oldest daughter is out at
