I [?] by the papers[?] a few days [?] the arrival at New York of fifty thousand Enfield Rifles & that[?] a portion[?] of them were intended[? for the State Maine
If that is true I rially [really?] hope you will furnish my Regt[?] with that arm.[?] I suppose your an a[?] that quite a portion[?] of the rifles now in possession of the first rgt[?] taken were[?] taken from Companies now in my rgt[?] prior to our leaving Bangor & I would seen that are an entitled[] to the new rifles in p[?] or[?] to any other rgt.[?]
