Dear Sir
I under- stand that the 2nd Maine Regiment is going to be filled up to 1000 men and that they are to be enlisted here. I wish to say to you that I wish you to authorize me to enlist them, and I will take charge of them myself and go to the seat of war with them myself. I live here in the city. I am Sergeant in Capt Cass' Company. I have been waiting to see if there was any chances for our Company. Will you be kind enough to inform me if there is any
