I James Lander on oath do testify and say that I sold Seth W. Smith a quantity of oats, for seed, for the Indians in the spring of 1857. I do not recollect the quantity nor the price he paid me for them. He settled with me and paid me for them & I gave him a receipt which will show for itself. The quantity & the price stated in that receipt are correct. Oats were very scarce in the spring of 1857, and it was difficult to buy them. They could not be bought readily & were sold at a very high price.

Then personally appeared James Lander & made oath to the truth of the above affidavit by him subscribed, before me.
